Day 5 Bristol to Leominster 72miles (yes, thats right -72)

Well, it's pretty late for me tonight, it must be past 10pm! It's been a very long day in the saddle for us. We had a fab evening at Colliters last night. Simon produced a fantastic bbq and it was lovely to catch up with family and friends. Tho we cyclists were all tucked up early for today's adventure. And what an adventure it was.
We left Colliters at about 9ish and wended our way to the Severn Bridge. This was a good trip through the docks and industrial areas. Very flat and we paced ourselves. We took a coffee break with John just before the bridge then took ages to get across it because of all the photo opportunities. It is beautiful and the weather was fine. Unlike some parts of the country we hear! We cycled through the Wye Valley. Wow! How incredibly beautiful. And Tintern Abbey is stunning. We had lunch in Monmouth which is a very pretty town. John caught up with us at one point and gave us his usual 'good news'. Most of which I forget now but involved lots of talk of downhills. Am learning to take no notice of him in this regard! We then spent a couple of hours getting here to the lovely Inn we are staying in. It was further than even John thought and we were all just exhausted on arrival. Though feeling pretty blessed that the weather had been great and the scenery so incredible. So apart from being saddle sore and weary of limb, sure, what have we to complain about? As David said, beats doing the payroll at work!
I had a bit of a prob with my small cog which seems to be ok for now but will need some attention in the longer term. Alex had 9 pee stops. I know this is probably of limited interest to anyone but Beth and I are counting! Trusty ate too much last night and suffered a bit today but seemed better this evening. We have some great photos. Some of which I will try and download now so watch this space. Anyone want to leave us a comment? Go on. Angie seems able to work out how! Go to comments and click. Write your message. Tick 'anonymous' in the box marked 'post as' and send post. That should work. It' d be great to hear from you!
So we were riding for 7 hours today. Phew.

  1. I can't believe anyone cycles 70 odd miles in one day - you are all mad. No wonder Alex's bladder is protesting ... or is it just an excuse for a rest?

  2. Hi mum! Finn here. You've got to come and rescue me! Boudi and D are great fun but D insists on us having showers after we've got really dirty playing in the woods and swimming in that dirty, green water I love so much. And then Boudi preens herself whilst D attacks her with that noisy air thing. Help! Also I've heard D talking about a "girls night/sleepover" which sounds scarey as I think it's got karaoke X factor stuff happening. Double help! I think you're WonderWoman now because D says you keep getting up and doing the same thing over and over again and your her heroine who deserves huge respect. Respect ya mum! Woofs and tail wags Fxx

  3. Deirdre here. At last, I've been able to post a comment! Maybe because I'm doing this sober at my desk rather than late at night after lots of wine! Alex just called and told me your miracle saddle's exploded! Bloody hell, just shows what an awesome challenge you're taking part in. What will you use now? Not one of John's? We're lovng your blog and I'm sending it out as a link to Alex's donors so keep writing and now I know how to comment I will. Positive pedalling!! Love to all Dxx

  4. Let's hope this is annie here!
I do hope all is going well and according to plan. Have just noticed that there has been no news on the blog since Wednesday and hope this is because of lack of signal and not becauseof the exploding miracle saddle that Deirdre mentioned in her comments. I hope you're not having the aforementioned saddle surgically removed! Will is at this moment climbing 8 peaks in 48 hours in the Lake District and yourcycling for England - I think the world has gone mad! Anyway, lots of love and luck and keep going.

  5. Finn, I must rush straight home...you are beginning to sound like a human bean!We are missing you loads and I would just love a walk with you guys at the moment. Don't worry about Boudi and Deirdre. That's just girl stuff. You stay in your green pond and away from that hairdryer thing. You know how unlucky you are with machinery! Love and woofs to you. From Mum and Dad xxx

  8. Hello!

Son Chris here reporting. Everything is fine at home apart from Jenny the lunatic as I said earlier.
Sorry to hear your having trouble with your brain! (or should I say small cog?) lol.
That picture with the rainbow looks amazing, i suppose dad was waiting at the end with a pot of gold? or energy gels?

Anyway, I'm just going to try and navigate to the donations thing so I'll let you know how that goes!

    Chris x
